Peru expands natural gas infrastructure with major pipeline and regional projects

Peru is expanding its natural gas infrastructure through major pipeline projects and regional massification initiatives. Transportadora de Gas del Perú (TGP) has modified its southern coast project to extend the pipeline from Humay, Ica, to Tacna, passing through Arequipa and Moquegua. This $2.027 billion investment includes a 100-kilometer branch to supply Tacna directly. The project aims to reduce residential gas tariffs in Arequipa by up to 40% for 165,000 households and is expected to create 20,000 construction jobs and 4,000 permanent operational roles.

In the Puno region, the Fondo de Inclusión Social Energético (FISE) is implementing a $6.9 million project to expand gas access. This includes a regasification plant in Jayllihuaya and 25 kilometers of distribution networks, initially targeting 1,000 homes. The project is currently 53% complete and aims to provide a cost-effective energy source for cooking and heating, potentially saving households up to 70% compared to electricity costs.

Additionally, ProInversión is promoting a $2.9 billion portfolio of projects to expand natural gas across eleven regions, including Cusco, Puno, Huancavelica, and Ayacucho, involving the installation of over 2,500 kilometers of distribution networks.
