Peru exports grow 33% to US$ 63.5 billion driven by mining
Peruvian exports reached US$ 63.521 billion between January and July 2026, marking a 33% year-on-year increase and continuing a 27-month growth streak. This surge was primarily driven by the mining sector, which grew 49.2% to US$ 46.284 billion, fueled by high international prices for copper and gold. Specific mineral increases included copper (up 43.3%), gold (up 56.9%), and lead and silver concentrates (up 105.7%).
Within the Pacific Alliance, Chile emerged as the primary destination for Peruvian exports during the first half of 2026, with shipments to the bloc totaling US$ 2.373 billion, a 12% increase. Major trading partners included China, receiving US$ 24.340 billion, and the United States, receiving US$ 5.971 billion.
Other sectors also showed growth, including agriculture (up 2.7%), chemicals (up 9.9%), and metallurgy (up 14%). Additionally, the Peruvian government is focusing on an economic agenda centered on investment, productivity, and closing social gaps to maintain momentum despite environmental challenges like El Niño.
