Peru faces challenges in maintaining exporter presence in global markets

César Tello Ramírez, president of the Association of Exporters (ADEX), highlighted the challenges facing Peruvian foreign trade, specifically the difficulty of ensuring companies remain in international markets. Data from the CIEN-ADEX research center shows that in 2025, there were 9,125 exporting companies, of which nearly 90% were micro, small, or medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

The report indicates a high turnover rate in the sector; while 2,794 companies began exporting in 2025, 2,590 ceased their export activities. Tello Ramírez emphasized that the primary challenge is not just recruiting new exporters but creating the necessary conditions for their permanence. He identified limited access to financing as a major obstacle for MSMEs, noting that a lack of resources hinders investment, productivity improvements, and technological integration.
