Peru faces digital transformation gap in small businesses and banking

Digital transformation remains a significant challenge for micro and small enterprises (MYPE) in Peru. According to data from the Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) released in July 2026, only 30% of these businesses have achieved significant progress in digital processes, despite 90% having internet access. Currently, only approximately 7% of MYPEs conduct sales online.

Simultaneously, the Peruvian banking sector is undergoing a strategic shift driven by the rapid adoption of digital payments. Data from the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) indicates that digital payments per person have increased nearly sevenfold over the last five years. This surge, supported by legislation allowing salary payments via digital wallets, is turning transaction data into a primary asset for financial institutions. Experts suggest that the ability to convert this high volume of information into real-time intelligent decisions will be a key differentiator for banks in the evolving ecosystem.
