Peru faces extreme heat in San Martín and drizzle in Lima
Peru is experiencing diverse weather patterns across different regions. In the San Martín region, an unprecedented heat wave has caused temperatures to rise significantly above normal levels. In Tarapoto, maximum temperatures have reached up to 38°C, exceeding the typical October average by approximately three degrees. High humidity is further increasing the thermal sensation. Authorities from Senamhi and Indeci have issued recommendations to avoid direct sun exposure between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and to prioritize hydration, especially for children, the elderly, and pregnant women.
Simultaneously, the capital city of Lima has recorded drizzle and overcast skies across various districts, including Cercado de Lima, Breña, and San Isidro. Senamhi has linked these precipitation patterns to the development of the El Niño phenomenon. Forecasts suggest that for the final quarter of the year, rainfall frequency and intensity are expected to increase in coastal regions historically affected by El Niño.
