The Peruvian Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), led by Minister Elmer Cuba, has announced a series of economic reforms aimed at increasing national productivity and reducing labor informality. A key component of this agenda is the creation of four presidential commissions tasked with addressing labor informality, financial market reforms, public investment efficiency, and tax evasion.

To tackle informality, the MEF is evaluating a new labor regime for micro-businesses that would implement gradual scales for gratifications, severance pay (CTS), and pension contributions based on salary levels. Additionally, the government plans to implement a minimum wage increase in two stages: an initial S/ 100 increment followed by S/ 70.

The MEF also intends to challenge four laws before the Constitutional Court regarding CAS bonuses, teacher pensions, military/police pensions, and CAFAE, arguing they are unconstitutional and negatively impact public finances.

Regarding the calendar, the government proposes reorganizing holidays by moving those falling between Tuesday and Friday to the nearest Monday, starting in 2027. This move aims to minimize disruptions to production chains and boost domestic tourism. Finally, despite the impacts of El Niño, the government projects economic growth of 3.5% for the year.
