Peru GDP grows 1.75% in June amid El Niño impact
Peru's economy grew by 1.75% in June 2026 compared to the same month in 2025, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI). This represents a deceleration from the growth rates seen in April and May.
The growth was heavily impacted by the El Niño Costero phenomenon, which caused significant declines in primary sectors. The fishing industry saw a sharp contraction of 51.94%, while agriculture fell by 8.12% and manufacturing decreased by 6.19%.
Conversely, the construction sector provided a significant boost, increasing by 9.04%, driven by cement consumption and public works. The commerce sector also grew by 7.81%, and the electricity, gas, and water sector rose by 6.82%. For the first half of 2026, Peru's cumulative GDP expansion stood at 3.05%.
