Peru Hass avocado exports rise 6.1% in first half of 2026
Peru's Hass avocado exports reached 505,377 tons during the first half of 2026, marking a 6.1% increase compared to the 476,440 tons exported during the same period in 2025. According to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), this growth maintains Peru's position as the world's second-largest exporter of Hass avocados. The country currently has access to 70 international markets, with ongoing efforts to secure new trade routes in Asia and Oceania, including Vietnam, Taiwan, New Zealand, and Australia.
However, individual producers are facing challenges. Agrícola Cerro Prieto reported a 45.2% contraction in its 2026 campaign, exporting 23,000 tons compared to 42,000 tons in 2025. The company attributed this decline to climatic effects that shortened the harvest window and exhausted trees following a highly productive 2025. Rising temperatures have also been linked to smaller fruit sizes and increased fruit drop in the fields, potentially impacting overall sector projections.
