Peru launches first International Forum on Uranium and Lithium to boost critical‑mineral sector

The Inter‑American Development Bank urged Peru to capitalize on the global boom in critical minerals, recommending stronger dialogue among the state, private sector, universities and local communities to attract private investment while ensuring environmental and social diligence. Former Chilean mining minister Aurora Williams highlighted that Bolivia, Argentina, Chile and Peru together hold more than half of the world’s lithium resources, underscoring South America’s strategic role in the energy transition.

On 7‑8 July, Peru inaugurated its inaugural International Forum on Uranium and Lithium at the Lima Convention Center. President José María Balcázar, along with ministers of Housing and Energy, opened the event, which will feature conferences, technical panels and an exhibition focused on the minerals’ contribution to energy security, technological development and smart‑city initiatives. Organisers aim to position Peru as a hub for responsible mining, investment attraction and international cooperation on these strategic resources.
