Peru is facing a surge in violence and environmental damage linked to illegal mining operations. According to the Colectivo País Seguro (PAS), homicide rates have spiked in mining-heavy regions, with 636 deaths recorded across Pataz, Ananea, Inambari, and Puerto Inca. In Pataz alone, 294 murders were reported, a figure that far exceeds the national average.

In response to criminal activity, the Peruvian National Police (PNP) dismantled the 'Los Explosiveros de Piás' gang in Pataz. The operation resulted in the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of 1,549 explosives, 5,500 meters of safety fuse, and cash, with total seized assets valued at over S/232,000.

Environmental monitoring by Conservación Amazónica (ACCA) via the RAMI platform has also identified significant ecological impacts. Satellite data shows new deforestation within the Tambopata National Reserve and the detection of 43 mining dredges in the Huánuco region. Additionally, authorities have worked to control several forest fires in Arequipa, Puno, Ucayali, and Pasco, affecting approximately 20 hectares of natural cover.
