Peru issues cold wave and storm warnings for Ayacucho highlands and Puno jungle

The National Weather Service of Peru warned that an extreme cold spell will affect nine provinces in the Ayacucho highlands from June 10‑12, with nighttime lows dropping to between 0 °C and –10 °C at 3,200 m and approaching –20 °C above 4,000 m. Wind gusts may reach 35 km/h, and the agency classified the event as dangerous, urging residents to follow official guidance to protect health, livestock and crops.

Separately, the Regional Emergency Operations Center in Puno issued an alert for light‑to‑moderate rain with intense lightning over June 8‑9. Expected accumulations are near 50 mm per day, with wind gusts up to 45 km/h. Authorities highlighted the risk of flooding, landslides and damage to agriculture, and advised communities to secure homes, avoid fieldwork during storms and stay informed via official channels.
