Peru Judiciary proposes Eurolatinamerican Network to combat organized crime

The Judiciary of Peru has presented a draft statute for the Eurolatinamerican Network of Asset Forfeiture, an international judicial alliance designed to combat corruption, money laundering, and transnational organized crime. Supported by the European Union’s EL PAcCTO 2.0 cooperation program, the initiative aims to unite specialized judges from Latin America and European Union member states.

Presented by Supreme Court Justice Manuel Luján Túpez, the network is envisioned as a permanent, non-binding technical and strategic mechanism. Its primary goals include facilitating the exchange of experiences, sharing best practices, and harmonizing criteria for the recovery of assets linked to illicit activities. The initiative seeks to create a more coordinated judicial response to criminal organizations that operate across borders to hide illegal profits in different jurisdictions.

A preparatory virtual meeting included judicial representatives from several countries, including Costa Rica, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Italy, Mexico, and Guatemala. The formal subscription of the statute is expected to take place in December.
