EU-Latin American organized crime cooperation

Efforts to combat transnational organized crime through cooperation between Latin American entities and the European Union have progressed through judicial and administrative initiatives.

Initially, the Judiciary of Peru proposed the creation of the Eurolatinamerican Network of Asset Forfeiture. Supported by the EU’s EL PAcCTO 2.0 program, this proposed judicial alliance aims to unite specialized judges from Latin America and EU member states to facilitate the exchange of best practices and harmonize criteria for recovering assets linked to corruption and money laundering.

Following this, the Andean Community and the European Union strengthened their partnership by signing Resolution 2639 in Lima. This resolution implements the Andean Data Bank, a tool designed for the real-time online exchange of information regarding criminal records and warrants among member nations. Supported by the EU’s Eurofront program, these measures also aim to improve border security and regional mobility for citizens of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
