Peru labor council agrees on minimum wage formula and ILO support

Peru's National Council for Labor and Employment Promotion (CNTPE) has agreed to establish a specialized commission to develop a formula for future adjustments to the Minimum Vital Remuneration (RMV). Labor Minister Juan Sheput stated that the commission will focus on productivity and economic context to determine wage increases, aiming to implement a mechanism that has been under discussion since 2007.

Additionally, the CNTPE expressed unanimous support for Javier González-Olaechea, a former Peruvian Foreign Minister, in his candidacy for the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO). González-Olaechea is scheduled to present his work plan during a global virtual forum, where he will answer questions from employer, worker, and government representatives. If elected in November, he would be the first Peruvian to lead the organization, which oversees 187 member states.
