Peru Labor Ministry convenes council to discuss minimum wage hike

Peru's Minister of Labor and Employment Promotion, Juan Sheput, has announced that the National Council for Labor and Employment Promotion (CNTPE) will hold an extraordinary session on September 3. The meeting aims to facilitate tripartite dialogue between the government, labor unions, and employers to address several critical national issues.

A primary agenda item is the potential increase of the Minimum Vital Remuneration (RMV) to S/1,300. The government is considering a progressive implementation, with an initial phase between September and October and a second phase in the first half of 2027. To mitigate the impact on micro and small enterprises (mypes), the government is evaluating tax incentives and specific bonuses.

Other key topics for the session include coordinating efforts to address the effects of 'El Niño Global' and evaluating the challenges posed by technological advancements and artificial intelligence in the workforce. Additionally, the government may discuss the potential reduction or rescheduling of national holidays to decrease labor costs for businesses.
