Peru launches AlertaMinedu app for schools to report El Niño risks

The Ministry of Education in Peru introduced the AlertaMinedu mobile application in Piura, with Minister Jorge Marticorena announcing that school directors can now report climate‑related hazards, activate emergency protocols and coordinate actions with local education units.

The regional education authority warned that limited budgets could hinder the implementation of preventive infrastructure works. About 40 % of at‑risk schools are in Piura’s highland provinces, and officials stress the need for funds to repair roofs, build prefabricated classrooms and carry out other mitigation measures.
