Peru ministries launch action plan to combat anemia

Peru's Ministry of Health (Minsa) and the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis) are collaborating on a strategic action plan to combat anemia. This initiative, described by Health Minister Luis Dyer Fernández as a ‘plan de guerra’ (war plan), involves technical working groups to establish concrete measures and strategic routes.

The plan aims to coordinate efforts across various sectors. Minister Dyer Fernández indicated that the strategy will eventually expand to include the private sector, academia, and international organizations. Additionally, Midis intends to strengthen community resources, such as popular dining halls and communal kitchens, to support child nutrition.

The urgency of this intervention is highlighted by data from the Demographic and Family Health Survey (ENDES), which reported that 34.9% of children aged 6 to 35 months were affected by anemia in 2025.
