Peru Ministry of Labor advances reform agenda and regional employment investment

The Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL) has proposed a series of reforms to the Peruvian Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion (MTPE) aimed at modernizing labor regulations and restructuring EsSalud. The CCL, led by Raúl Barrios Fernández-Concha, presented 25 measures designed to boost formal employment and productivity. Key proposals include separating the institutional and executive functions of EsSalud to improve governance and professionalizing its management through merit-based criteria. The labor reform package includes implementing proportional fines, simplifying procedures for micro and small enterprises (MYPE), and improving interoperability between government agencies.

In a separate regional initiative, Labor Minister Juan Sheput announced an investment of S/ 5.9 million in the Junín region to support recovery efforts following recent seismic activity. Through the Llamkasun Perú program, the government intends to execute 31 interventions to restore roads, public spaces, and tourist areas. This investment is expected to generate approximately 1,600 temporary jobs in districts such as Huayucachi, Huacrapuquio, Viques, and Chupuro, allowing local populations to participate directly in community reconstruction.
