Roberto Sánchez contests Keiko Fujimori’s presidential proclamation in Peru
Roberto Sánchez, leader of the Juntos por el Perú coalition, denounced the formal proclamation of Keiko Fujimori as president‑elect as “irregular,” citing unresolved complaints about the handling of overseas votes. Sánchez argued that the JNE’s ceremony ignored a pending appeal concerning the custody and tally of consular ballot boxes and warned that the government would lack legitimacy without a thorough audit.
The JNE’s full board rejected the coalition’s request, with secretary Yessica Clavijo stating the appeal was declared unfounded during the proclamation ceremony. Despite the official results showing Fujimori’s party winning by a narrow margin of 49,641 votes (50.135% to 49.865%), Sánchez announced that his party will take the case to the Inter‑American Commission on Human Rights (CIDH) and seek stricter parliamentary oversight of the new government’s transition.
