Peru police capture suspect after San Martín attack, injured officer flown to Lima

An armed attack in the Awajún district of Peru's San Martín region left two people dead, including a police officer, and injured four others. Following an aerial operation, the National Police captured the alleged attacker and seized a shotgun and the weapon belonging to the fallen sub‑officer.

Police sub‑officer Luis Alberto Llatas Constantino, 32, who was wounded in the same incident, was air‑lifted from Moyobamba to the Hospital Nacional "Luis N. Sáenz" in Lima's Jesús María district. He carries three bullets in his back, one near the aorta, and requires urgent surgery.

The rapid response was coordinated by the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Health after the victim's family appealed for help through a national radio hotline.
