Peru prepares for 2026 regional and municipal elections
The National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec) reported that 1,548,156 citizens in the Piura region are eligible to vote in Peru's regional and municipal elections scheduled for 4 October 2026. Piura ranks third nationwide in voter count, with the province of Piura alone accounting for 648,716 voters. The electorate is almost evenly split by gender (771,423 men and 776,733 women) and includes 422,397 young voters aged 18‑29.
The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) held a public draw in Puno to determine the order of appearance for 29 political organizations in the election’s free media “franja electoral,” which will run from 5 August to 1 October 2026. The order begins with Primero la Gente – Comunidad, Ecología, Libertad y Progreso, followed by parties such as Somos Perú, Partido País para Todos, and others up to Progresemos at position 29.
