Peru President José María Balcázar Announces Pope León XIV Visit for Nov 10, Urges Election Calm

President José María Balcázar told reporters in Chiclayo that Pope León XIV is scheduled to arrive in Peru on 10 November. The pope will meet the president in the Vatican on 18 June to formalise the invitation, and then travel to three countries in the region, spending about two days in Peru. Formal congressional approval for Balcázar’s trip to the Holy See is still pending.

After casting his vote in the second‑round presidential election, Balcázar called for tranquility, respect for the electoral results and a peaceful transfer of power. He praised the work of the ONPE, the National Jury of Elections, the police and the armed forces, and said no serious irregularities had been reported. The president highlighted the role of young voters and the incoming Congress in driving development and stability.
