Peru private investment grows 17.6% in Q2 2026

Peru's economy is showing signs of robust recovery, with private investment growing 17.6% in the second quarter of 2026. This represents the highest growth rate for the sector since 2010, excluding the post-pandemic rebound. This expansion was largely driven by a 42.8% nominal increase in mining investment, supported by projects such as Tía María, Reposición Ferrobamba, and Romina, alongside ongoing operations at Antamina, Shougang, and Antapaccay.

Internal demand also expanded by 5.2% during the same period, marking ten consecutive months of growth. Private consumption rose by 3.7%, supported by a 4.1% increase in formal employment and a 10.6% expansion in consumer credit.

In the mining sector, exports reached US$36,007 million between January and May 2026, a 58.6% year-on-year increase. This growth is attributed to favorable international metal prices and demand from the energy transition and infrastructure sectors. Key minerals driving this include copper, gold, lead, and zinc.

Additionally, Peru and Hong Kong are set to implement a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on September 1, 2026. The agreement will eliminate tariffs on approximately 98.3% of Peruvian export lines to Hong Kong, providing greater market access for sectors such as agro-exports, including grapes, blueberries, and avocados.
