Peru productive activity grows in 19 departments

According to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), productive activity in 19 Peruvian departments showed favorable trends during the second quarter of 2026. Twelve of these regions reported growth rates exceeding the national average of 2.6%.

Eight specific regions contributed 72.7% of the total production. Lambayeque saw the highest expansion at 9.6%, followed by Ica at 7.4%, Cajamarca at 6.2%, Moquegua at 4.7%, Arequipa at 4.2%, Junín at 2.9%, La Libertad at 2.8%, and Lima at 1.6%. Conversely, five departments experienced declines: Tacna (-15.5%), Loreto (-2.9%), Áncash (-2.5%), Apurímac (-0.5%), and San Martín (-0.4%).

In Ica, the 7.4% growth was driven by the mining subsector. High iron extraction volumes in Marcona and a base effect from Shougang Hierro Perú, which had suspended operations in mid-2025, bolstered results. Additionally, gold production increased at Vista Gold, though copper and silver production fell due to reduced operations by Marcobre and Nexa Resources Perú.
