Peru promotes mining and renewable energy investment potential
Peru is positioning itself as a strategic destination for energy and mining investment within the APEC region. During the XVI APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting in Beijing, Minister of Energy and Mines Guillermo Shinno highlighted the country's economic openness, legal stability, and significant renewable energy potential, including over 937 GW of solar and 20 GW of wind resources.
Shinno emphasized Peru's role as a global leader in the production of copper, zinc, silver, and critical minerals. He also noted structural reforms aimed at protecting private capital, such as regulatory transformations in the electricity sector and public consultations regarding green hydrogen legislation. Additionally, the 'Horizonte de Verano' project in southern Peru is highlighted for its potential to install nearly 6 GW of solar energy to produce green ammonia.
In the Piura region, the Ministry of Energy and Mines, in partnership with Women in Mining Peru, conducted training workshops for students and professionals. These sessions focused on modern mining, sustainable development, and the circular economy. The workshops also detailed upcoming 2026 mining projects in Piura, including the Lancones copper project, the Río Blanco project with an investment of $2,792 million, and the Bayóvar expansion.
