Peru retail sales projected to hit 4.222 bn soles in June 2026

The Peru Retail and Distribution Guild predicts sector sales will reach 4.222 billion soles in June, a 5% increase over the same month last year. The growth is attributed to the Father's Day campaign and the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is expected to spread consumer spending throughout the month rather than concentrating on a single day.

Fitch Ratings revised its outlook for the Latin American retail sector to "deteriorating" for 2026, citing inflation pressures, reduced purchasing power and climate risks such as a warmer El Niño winter. Despite the regional downgrade, Fitch singled out Peru (along with Colombia) as one of the better‑performing markets in the first half of the year. The agency warns that continued inflation and climate‑related inventory pressures could challenge the sector in the second half of the year.
