Peru Minister Shinno advances mining reform and energy preparedness

Peru's Minister of Energy and Mines, Guillermo Shinno Huamaní, is spearheading several key initiatives within the energy and mining sectors. In Chiclayo, he coordinated with regional authorities to ensure electrical companies are prepared for the potential El Niño phenomenon, focusing on infrastructure protection and service continuity.

On the regulatory front, Shinno is advancing the MAPE Law (Small Mining and Artisanal Mining Law) to simplify and restructure the mining formalization process. This includes reorganizing the Reinfo registry, which is set to expire on December 31, 2026. The ministry intends to facilitate a more direct path for small producers while maintaining a focus on combating illegal mining.

Due to rising fuel costs and regulatory tensions, Shinno has requested to appear before the Energy and Mines Commission of the Chamber of Deputies to discuss sector policies. Additionally, the Minister is scheduled to travel to Japan and China to participate in the XVI APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting, seeking to strengthen international cooperation and investment in critical minerals and sustainable energy technologies.
