Peru women's volleyball team hit by injury before 2026 South American Cup
Central blocker Ginna López of the University San Martín squad has been ruled out of the 2026 Women's South American Volleyball Cup after sustaining a training injury. Coach Antonio Rizola said the federation is consulting several doctors, including specialists from Brazil, and emphasized that “the first priority is the health of the athlete, not any title.”
The tournament, scheduled for July 22‑26 at Lima’s Coliseo Eduardo Dibós, also serves as a qualifier for the September South American Championship and the Pan American Games. Peru’s roster for the event includes players such as Diana de la Peña, Karla Ortiz, and Jade Cuya. Their opening match will be against Chile on July 22 at 6 p.m. local time, broadcast on Latina Televisión and its digital platforms.
