Peru women's volleyball 2026 tournament

Peru’s women’s volleyball team entered the 2026 Copa Sudamericana in Lima with a weakened roster after central blocker Ginna López was sidelined by a training injury. Coach Antonio Rizola noted that the federation was consulting specialists, stating, “the first priority is the health of the athlete, not any title.”

The squad opened with a 3-0 loss to Chile on July 22 and then fell 3-0 to Brazil’s B-team on July 23, a defeat that eliminated Peru from semifinal contention. Brazil’s victory preserved an unbeaten record in Group A and secured a place in the semifinals, completing a perfect group-stage run that also included 3-0 wins over Bolivia and Chile.

After the group stage, Peru faced Bolivia in a classification match and subsequently played Venezuela on July 26. A 3-1 win over Venezuela earned Peru fifth place in the tournament and a spot in the 2026 South American Championship, following earlier victories against Ecuador and Bolivia. Brazil went on to win the tournament, defeating Colombia in the final, while Argentina claimed bronze over Chile.

Following their fifth-place finish, the Peruvian team is preparing for the 2026 South American Volleyball Championship, scheduled for September 8–13 at the Maracanãzinho in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Under coach Rizola, the team will compete in a round-robin format against Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, and Chile. The tournament offers qualifying opportunities for the 2027 Women's World Volleyball Championship and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
