Perugia: Two teenagers killed in fatal car accident
Two teenagers, Leonardo Bertino, 17, and Samuele Morettini, 16, were killed in a car accident late Thursday night on the Marscianese road near Sant'Enea, between Perugia and Marsciano. The victims were passengers in a Mercedes Classe A that veered off the road while navigating a curve, overturned multiple times, and struck a house wall. Both youths were thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.
The driver, an 18-year-old with a new driver's license, was injured in the crash. The Perugia Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into road homicide and ordered the seizure of the vehicle. While tests for alcohol and drugs returned negative results for the driver, authorities are working to reconstruct the dynamics of the accident to determine why the driver lost control.
Three other passengers were taken to the Santa Maria della Misericordia hospital in Perugia; one was discharged, while two others remain under observation in non-serious condition. The tragedy has caused widespread mourning in Perugia and San Martino in Colle. Local officials, including Mayor Vittoria Ferdinandi and Assembly President Sarah Bistocchi, expressed deep condolences to the families and the community.
