Peru's exports jump 37% in first five months of 2026, led by copper and gold
Peru's foreign trade ministry reported that exports of goods rose 36.7%‑37% from January to May 2026, reaching US$45.128 billion – the eighth consecutive month of growth. The surge was driven mainly by mineral shipments, with copper exports worth US$15.515 billion (+48.2%) and gold at US$11.776 billion (+65.1%), together accounting for about 60.5% of total sales.
Traditional non‑metal exports grew modestly, while non‑traditional goods such as fish, petroleum products and agricultural items also increased. The main overseas markets were China (US$17.39 billion, +44.3%), the United States (US$4.27‑4.28 billion, +19.8%), the European Union (US$3.96 billion, +11.7%), India (US$4.80 billion, +257.6%), Canada and Switzerland. The number of exporters rose to 7,325, with 65% classified as micro, small or medium‑size firms.
