Peru's 2026 Regional Election Lists Face Disqualifications and Dual Candidacy Issues

In the Junín region, eleven political parties submitted candidate lists for Peru's 2026 regional and municipal elections. Only five lists were admitted, while three were ruled inadmissible for missing documentation or unresolved observations, and three were declared improcedente and excluded. Parties such as Fuerza Popular, Somos Perú, and Fuerza Ciudadana were also barred for failing to present complete candidate rosters or for not meeting mandatory representation quotas for indigenous and peasant communities.

At the national level, the electoral authority identified several newly elected legislators who simultaneously filed candidacies for regional or municipal offices. Senator Rafael López Aliaga's bid for a provincial council seat was rejected for not providing a valid resignation from his Senate seat. Similar cases involved deputies Leo De Paz Lanchoy, Aldo Bravo Quispe, and others who either withdrew or faced obstacles before the deadline of August 5 to resign and assume congressional duties. The Jurado Electoral Especial (JEE) and the Jurado Nacional de Elecciones (JNE) are overseeing appeals and enforcement of the dual‑candidacy rules.
