Peru's Callao port dominates cargo traffic as Matson projects $150 million operating profit
Peruvian maritime terminals moved 29.5 million metric tons of cargo between January and May 2026, representing 99.4% of the nation’s total freight volume. The Port of Callao led with 9.25 million tons and 894,872 TEU, while other terminals such as Matarani, Chancay and Paita contributed smaller shares.
Matson Inc. forecast second‑quarter 2026 consolidated operating profit between USD 153 million and USD 160 million, with net profit of USD 124.8 million‑130.3 million and earnings per share of $4.12‑$4.30. Growth is driven by stronger service to China, where container volumes rose 15.2%, offset by modest declines in Hawaii (‑1.1%) and Alaska (‑2.3%). The company also repurchased about 300,000 shares during the quarter.
