Peru's Chancay Port hailed as emerging logistics hub in Pacific trade
China's ambassador to Peru, Song Yang, praised the Chancay port after its first year of operations, calling it the most modern port in Latin America. He highlighted the use of 5G and advanced automation that make the terminal a "smart" hub for regional maritime traffic and said the facility strengthens commercial ties between Peru and the Asia‑Pacific.
Peruvian Foreign Trade Minister Berthin Gómez reinforced the vision of turning Peru into a regional logistics hub. He cited ongoing projects linking the Callao‑Chancay corridor with multimodal routes such as the Inter‑Oceanic South Corridor, the Amazon North Corridor and the Central Corridor, aiming to improve connectivity with Brazil and other markets. Gómez also noted efforts to digitise export procedures through a new port module of the Single Window for Foreign Trade and the establishment of Private Special Economic Zones to attract investment and create skilled jobs.
