Peru's Confiep warns investment delay as election result fuels uncertainty

Jorge Zapata, president of the Confederación Nacional de Instituciones Empresariales Privadas (Confiep), said the narrow outcome of Peru's second‑round presidential election has created significant uncertainty for the private sector. He noted that many investment decisions are being postponed until the direction of the incoming government becomes clear, even though the country’s macro‑economic fundamentals remain strong.

Zapata rejected claims of a massive capital outflow comparable to the 2021 election, stating that only limited fund movements have been observed. He called for political leaders to promote dialogue and consensus, stressing the need to address security, corruption, and improve state efficiency. Confiep also emphasized that no evidence of electoral fraud has been found and urged responsible discourse to protect governance and democratic stability.

Official results show Roberto Sánchez with 50.094 % of valid votes and Keiko Fujimori with 49.906 %, a margin of about 33,000 votes.
