Peru's Coro Aguchita records hymn for Pope Leo XIV's 2026 visit

The Asociación Peruana de Autores y Compositores (APDAYC) began recording the official hymn "León, hermano del camino" for Pope Leo XIV’s upcoming visit to Peru (11‑17 Nov 2026). Instrumental tracks were laid down on 30 July, followed by vocal sessions with the youth choir Coro Aguchita, including a Quechua version recorded by TVPerú presenters Analyy Gaspar and Ebert Villanueva. Composer Jaime Montoya, who fused Andean instruments such as quena, zampoña, charango and bombo, wrote the song, which won the national "León de la Esperanza" contest among 393 entries. After recording, TVPerú will produce a music video to accompany the hymn. The choir, named after the beatified beata María Agustina Rivas López, sees the project as a continuation of her legacy of faith and evangelisation.

The hymn aims to welcome the Pope and promote spiritual outreach across the country.
