Peru's Defensor del Pueblo affirms Roberto Sánchez's right to appeal election results

Defensor del Pueblo Josué Gutiérrez presented the final observation report on Peru's presidential runoff held on 7 June. The report concluded that the institution found no evidence of fraud or significant irregularities in the second round.

Gutiérrez addressed former presidential candidate Roberto Sánchez's appeal to the Inter‑American Commission on Human Rights, stating that Sánchez is fully within his rights to file the complaint, but the move lacks institutional relevance for the Defensoría. The report will be forwarded to international election observers, including the OAS, the CIDH, the European Union, the Carter Center and other accredited bodies.
