Peru's dollar rate steadies as bank projects $50 billion trade surplus

The official exchange rate in Peru was reported at S/3.38 per US dollar, a figure closely watched by households and businesses because it influences import costs, inflation and purchasing power.

The Central Bank of Peru forecast a commercial surplus of almost $50 billion for 2026, up from a $43 billion surplus recorded through April. Export earnings are expected to reach $118 billion while imports are projected around $69 billion. The bank highlighted an 18.3% improvement in the terms of trade, the strongest level in 76 years, which is boosting export revenues.

These developments reflect a continued strengthening of Peru’s external sector after the pandemic, with the trade balance showing substantial gains compared with pre‑COVID levels.
