Peru's JNE to rule on candidate appeals and credential ceremony on July 13
The Jurado Nacional de Elecciones (JNE) has scheduled a public hearing for 13 July to decide several electoral appeals. One case concerns Rafael López Aliaga, whose bid for a Lima municipal seat was rejected by the Jurado Electoral Especial; his party Renovación Popular argues the law only bars sitting legislators, not those who have returned their senatorial credentials. Another appeal involves Fuerza Popular’s regional ticket for Junín, which was deemed inadmissible after a list‑submission error; the party claims a technical failure of the registration platform caused the omission.
Separately, the JNE will hand over credentials to Keiko Fujimori as president‑elect in a ceremony at the Gran Teatro Nacional, prompting former presidential candidate Roberto Sánchez to call a nationwide mobilization demanding the release of ex‑president Pedro Castillo. Additional JNE rulings have disqualified Fuerza Popular candidates in Florencia de Mora for not meeting the two‑year residency requirement.
All decisions are part of Peru’s broader election process ahead of the upcoming municipal and regional elections.
