President Keiko Fujimori Begins Infrastructure and Judicial Reform

Keiko Fujimori was sworn in as President of Peru on 28 July 2026, launching a five‑year term that includes a new cabinet led by Prime Minister Luis Galarreta and a team of economic officials. The government announced a US$20.6 billion plan to complete Lima’s Metro Line 2 and build Lines 3‑6, positioning the project as a major driver of growth and jobs.

In parallel, the administration revived a S/70 million geomalla project to protect the district of Santa Eulalia in Huarochirí from El Niño‑related landslides. Twelve steel geomallas and 35 containment dikes will be installed between August and December to safeguard vulnerable valleys.

During the national Day of the Judge and the Judge ceremony, President Fujimori pledged respect for judicial independence, while judicial leaders such as Janet Tello and regional courts highlighted the need for impartial courts. The events underscored the new government's focus on both infrastructure development and strengthening the rule of law.
