Peru's Keiko Fujimori government gains business backing for trade and economic agenda

The Association of Exporters of Peru (Adex) endorsed the foreign‑trade proposals of President Keiko Fujimori’s newly installed government, stressing the need to revitalize the Pacific Alliance and the Andean Community of Nations. Adex president César Tello highlighted that exports reached US$74 billion in 2024 with a 15.5 % annual growth and are projected to exceed US$90 billion in 2025, noting a 34 % increase in the first five months of the year.

The Chamber of Commerce and Production of Piura, led by Javier Bereche Álvarez, also backed the presidential agenda, calling for stronger public safety, private investment, state modernization, simplified administrative procedures, support for micro‑ and small‑enterprises, and proactive measures against the El Niño phenomenon. The chamber welcomed the announced increase in the minimum living wage but urged clarification on the compensatory bonus for small firms and emphasized the importance of executing the announced projects with fiscal discipline and coordinated effort between government and the private sector.
