EsSalud management success tied to political cost for Peru's Labor Minister

Peruvian Deputy Carlos Yalta Sotelo has warned that Labor Minister Juan Sheput will face political consequences if the new management of EsSalud fails. Yalta emphasized that Sheput has publicly taken responsibility for the performance of the new executive president, Zulema Tomás.

During discussions within the Labor and Social Security Commission, Yalta criticized the lack of a clear roadmap regarding the recovery of EsSalud. While the minister presented an estimated requirement of up to S/39,494 million to address structural infrastructure gaps through 2035, the deputy noted that the proposal lacks specific goals, budgets, and timelines. Current immediate needs, including cash deficits and legal settlements, are estimated at S/5,756 million, with short-term infrastructure and equipment investments projected at S/12,344 million for the 2026-2028 period.
