Peru's Mining Exports Jump 60% in First Five Months, Led by Copper and Gold
The National Society of Mining, Oil and Energy (SNMPE) reported that Peru's mining exports reached US$35.6 bn from January to May, a 59.7% increase year‑on‑year. The surge was driven primarily by higher values for copper (US$16.4 bn, +56.9%), gold (US$13.2 bn, +67%) and lead (US$1.3 bn, +?%). During the same period copper accounted for 46.1% of export value and gold 37.2%, while mining overall represented 75.2% of Peru's product shipments abroad.
In May alone, mining exports totaled US$7.09 bn, up 54.4% from the comparable month a year earlier. Copper exports were US$3.32 bn (+53.2%) with volume up 6.4% and price up 44%; gold exports were US$2.49 bn (+54.6%) with volume up 10.9% and price up 39.4%.
