Peru's MTC begins maritime transfer of modular bridges to Piura
Peru's Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) has begun the maritime transfer of 20 modular bridges to Piura to prepare for potential road disruptions caused by the El Niño phenomenon. The shipment, consisting of 15 containers, is being transported via the Callao-Paita humanitarian corridor.
This maritime operation replaces more than 160 necessary land trips, optimizing logistics for disaster prevention. The initiative was coordinated with the National Commission for El Niño Risk Management. Through an alliance with private operators, including DP World at the Callao terminal and the shipping company Hapag-Lloyd, the costs for storage, terminal use, and maritime freight are being covered by the participating companies, resulting in no cost to the state treasury.
The structures will be stored in northern Peru for immediate deployment and installation during road emergencies. The humanitarian corridor will remain active to facilitate the preventive transport of food, medical supplies, and essential goods in the event of road or highway collapses.
