Peru's New Congress to Swear In Senators and Deputies on July 24 and Choose Leadership on July 26
The Peruvian Congress will hold its inauguration ceremony on Friday, 24 July 2026. Senators will be sworn in at 11 a.m. and deputies at 4 p.m. in the Legislative Palace. Parties must submit their internal parliamentary regulations by 22 July, a prerequisite for participating in the election of the Board of Directors. Deputies and senators from Lima have announced they will forgo the installation allowance of 15,600 soles.
Two days later, on 26 July, the newly constituted Senate will elect its Board of Directors at 2 p.m., followed by the Chamber of Deputies at 6 p.m. Lists of candidates must be presented by 25 July. The Preparatory Board, installed on 24 July, will hand over to the formal Parliament on 27 July, with the full Congress officially installed by midnight on 28 July, marking the start of the 2026‑2027 ordinary legislative term.
