Peruvian Ahora Nación pushes for consensus on Senate and Chamber leadership
The Ahora Nación parliamentary bloc said it will not place conditions on the selection of the Mesa Directiva for the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies. Senator Jaime Delgado explained that the party is willing to let Renovación Popular assume the presidencies of both chambers if a broader political agreement is reached. Ahora Nación is holding talks with Obras, Juntos por el Perú, and other groups to build a consensus list and maintain a balance of power between the legislature and the executive. The bloc emphasizes that the composition of the leadership, rather than who chairs it, is the priority for the new Congress.
Delgado added that the Mesa Directiva should be led by parties distinct from the governing coalition to preserve checks and balances and facilitate an effective legislative agenda.
