Peruvian authorities detain man for trafficking citizen to Russia-Ukraine conflict

Peruvian authorities have detained a man in the Ate district of Lima for his alleged involvement in the human trafficking of a Peruvian citizen to Russia. The suspect, identified as Vidal Isaac Lavado Zavala, is accused of using false promises of high-paying security jobs to recruit and transport the victim to the Russian Federation, where the individual was ultimately sent to fight in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

According to the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Human Trafficking Crimes in North Lima, the victim was allegedly promised a monthly salary of $2,600 and a $26,000 bonus. Upon arrival in Russia, the victim was reportedly subjected to medical evaluations for military service and pressured to sign contracts in Russian. The investigation began after the victim contacted family in Peru to reveal their situation.

During a judicial raid on the suspect's residence, authorities seized electronic devices, credit cards, cash in both soles and dollars, and a firearm. This arrest follows reports from the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has acknowledged that at least 459 Peruvians have been recruited to serve in the Russian military, often under deceptive circumstances.
