Peruvian candidates' trials postponed amid electoral disputes

Juan Carrasco Millones, the Avanza País candidate for regional governor of Lambayeque, had his oral trial suspended after his lawyer cited a medical diagnosis of arterial insufficiency and possible embolism. The Supreme Court judge rescheduled the hearing for 13 July. In a related setback, the Electoral Special Jury declared the Avanza País list for the Ciudad Eten mayoral race invalid due to a past conviction of the lead candidate.

Robert de la Cruz, the Podemos Perú candidate for mayor of Trujillo, says the criminal case against him for alleged market usurpation is politically motivated. He reports procedural irregularities and expects the trial to resume on 15 July, with a possible sentence before the end of the month.
