Peruvian Congress Approves Membership Numbers for 16 Legislative Commissions

On 6 August 2026, the Peruvian Chamber of Deputies plenary voted to set the size of the 16 ordinary legislative commissions for the 2026‑2027 session. Twenty members will sit on commissions such as Constitution, Regulation and Foreign Relations; Modernization of State Management; Economy, Banking, Finance and Financial Intelligence; Education, Culture and Sports; Justice and Human Rights; Inclusion Social, Family, Women and Indigenous Peoples; and Infrastructure, Housing and Transport. The remaining nine commissions – including Defense, Agriculture, Consumer Protection, Energy and Mines, Production, Tourism, Environment, Health, Labor and Science – will each have nineteen deputies.

The same session also approved the composition of two non‑legislative commissions, the Parliamentary Ethics Commission and the Legislative Follow‑up Commission, each with six members. Oscar Reto, president of the Chamber, announced the appointment of Hugo Rovira Zagal as the chamber’s chief clerk.

Party distribution shows that the Fujimori‑aligned Fuerza Popular will chair six commissions and hold six vice‑presidencies and six secretariats, the second‑largest bloc Juntos por el Perú will obtain four chairmanships, and smaller parties will receive two or one each.
