Peruvian Congresswoman Lady Camones Says She Funded Vatican Trip Personally
Congresswoman Lady Camones of Peru’s Alianza para el Progreso confirmed that she paid for all expenses of her participation in the delegation accompanying President José Balcázar to the Vatican. She stated she covered air travel, accommodation, per diems and related costs with her own resources and rejected claims that the trip was funded by the executive or legislative branches.
Camones said she accepted the president’s invitation without requesting clarification on the selection criteria and noted she was unsure why she was the sole delegate from her region, leaving that question to the president.
The remarks come as the government prepares for a potential papal visit to Peru.
